You may not realize just how important it is to take care of your gums. Your gums are linked to your oral health which affects your overall health and well being. Gum disease is an infection that can result in gum damage. Here are a few tips to help keep your gums healthy and prevent issues like gum disease from happening:

  1. Floss – Floss your teeth once a day! Flossing helps to get rid of unwanted food and particles stuck between your teeth that could affect your gums. You can floss whenever you would like, just ensure you are flossing at least once every day!
  2. Brush Twice a Day – Besides flossing, you should be brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. By brushing your teeth, you remove plaque from your mouth that can result in gum disease.
  3. Visit your Dentist for regular checkups and cleanings – A good way to make sure you are taking care of your gums is to visit your Dentist twice a year for regular checkups and cleanings. The Dentist is able to detect gum disease when you come in for your appointment and can help to develop more issues from arising.
  4. Watch the Foods You Eat – You may not realize this, but certain foods can contribute to tooth decay which can result in gum disease. Stay away from foods that contain sugar and are sticky. If you do eat foods like this, brush your teeth after.
